I haven’t been here for some time

I haven’t posted here, for some time…

I have been busy, occupied in preparing accounts for Auditing, getting church maintenance problems solved…. The list goes on, is long and boring, so I won’t trouble you with adding any more to that score.
I have kept my quiet times though, have been blessed with rest and quietness through them, and there have been other little things which have given such joy, the carpets of snow drops, crocuses in the church yard, and now the daffodils, even on the busiest of days such things give us little buckets of calm and refreshment. They are worth stop to look. I’m told we have a woodpecker in the churchyard now, I’m keeping a look out. He’s been heard, not seen.

Because Eastertide draws close I would like to share this poem with you, written by A.E. Houseman, it makes me smile, because I have seen a lot more than twenty springs.

Loveliest of Trees, the Cherry now

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands without the Woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now if my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves with fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

A. E. Houseman

Now, go look for a cherry tree or a woodpecker,

The photo is a detail from a lovely window in the Cathedral Church of St Philip, Birmingham, depicting Christ in Judgement.

  1. Welcome back.
I definitely get & can relate to not being on here as often as one would like.
Life outside of the WP – it happens… 😉
